If there is no God why is there good in our world?

By Randy Alcorn I first posted about “the problem of goodness” on my blog 14 years ago, but it is still relevant to conversations I’m having today with others (nothing has changed other than that I am 14 years older!). People always talk about the problem of evil, and how it threatens the Christian worldview, but they almost never talk about the problem of goodness and how it threatens non-Christian worldviews, including the evolutionary framework, survival of the fittest, materialism, and naturalism. That people would sacrificially do great good for the benefit of others—who naturalism sees as weak links in the chain that deserve to cease to exist—is absolutely extraordinary and cries out for an explanation. —Randy While atheists routinely speak of the problem of evil, they usually don’t raise the problem of goodness. But if evil provides evidence against God, then shouldn’t goodness count as evidence for Him? And wouldn’t that be evidence against atheism?  From a non-theistic viewpoi

Day or Night praise our God!

a bright morning. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) Throughout the Bible , the words morning and evening are frequently referenced. However, in the creation account of Genesis 1 and several times within the Psalms these words are linked to a relationship with God . "It is good to give thanks to the Lord , and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your loving-kindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night."  (Psalm 92:1-2) Where is God in the course of your day? How can you draw closer to the One who sets the rhythm for life? Although you may not intentionally focus on God every moment of the day, consider the morning and evening as a special time for Him. ( Psalm 25:6 )   These beautiful words, "tender mercies" and " lovingkindness ," may sound somewhat old-fashioned in today's sophisticated jargon, but the divine attributes they represent have been "ever of old" and will continue to characterize our tender and merciful, kind and loving God of all grace forever. Dropping them from our conversation (even in most newer translations of the Bible ) is a sad loss that, to some degree, has impoverished our speech and, perhaps, our souls.   Note some of the rich scriptural testimonies associated with them: "|The Lord | redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies" ( Psalm 103:4 ). "Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually p
