Prayer notebook

Image
When I was in Bible college, I was told stories of a former professor that used to go around with a notebook in his pocket. He didn’t carry this notebook to keep track of student’s grades, or for his schedule, no. He would use this notebook so that when he went around and spoke with his students or others on campus, he could take down their prayer requests. It was his prayer notebook. He would regularly insert new prayer requests into his notebook, but he didn’t stop there. He would spend devoted time praying for each of these students’ requests. Then, he intentionally would follow up with the students to let them know that he had not forgotten their prayer request and that he continued to bring it before the Lord.  He would also ask if and how God had answered the prayer request. If the prayer was answered, he would praise the Lord. If the prayer had been answered by the Lord, not yet, or seemingly not in a clear fashion at that time, he would still praise the all-wise God and continu

Waiting on God while you're in pain

Ever been in physical, mental or relationship pain? You pray then wait, but what do you do while you wait? Panic? Worry? Take excessive medication?  Today we meet a lady that had been waiting for relief from her condition for a long, long time. 2 WAYS TO WAIT FOR JESUS SO YOU CAN GIVE GOD GLORY WHEN HELP IS DELAYED 1. PASSIONATELY PURSUE JESUS WHEN YOU NEED HIM In Luke 8:40-48, we see two cases of passionate pursuit… A) THE SYNAGOGUE LEADER  Luke 8:40-42 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. And there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus’ feet, he implored him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As Jesus went, the people pressed around him. Jesus is swamped in a crowd of fans and somehow a desperate man worms his way through the crowd and collapses at Jesus’ feet. The crowd recognizes Jairus as a ruler of their synagogue. “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). Praying for God’s will to be done on earth is an aggressive prayer. Because obviously God's will is not done on earth. Hence our need to pray. Many assume that somehow everything that happens is God’s will. But that’s not true. Lives destroyed by murderous aggressors and families broken by adultery aren’t God’s will. Children and adults ravaged by abuse or crippled by the various diseases aren’t God’s will. He uses sin and illness to accomplish His own purposes (Rom. 8:28), but they aren’t His desire. Eventually, God will destroy all evil and will fulfil His purposes perfectly (Rev. 20:10–14), but that hasn’t happened yet. That’s why we must pray for His will to be done on earth. We can’t afford to be passive or indifferent in prayer. We must pray aggressively and not lose heart (Luke 18:1). That’s how David prayed. His passion for God’s will compelled him to pray, “Make me understand the way of Thy
