The Battle of science or politics?

Image
A doctor’s refusal to release a study showing no benefit of so-called “gender-affirming care” for children proves, once again, that the push to sterilize and mutilate minors is about following an agenda, not science. Following the “science" can be about leveraging authoritative positions to bully people into preordained outcomes, even as actual science pointed elsewhere. Today sees “science” justifying the barbaric medical procedures dubbed “gender-affirming care,” which is liberal speak for pumping kids with puberty blockers and hormones under the guise of boosting their emotional happiness. But when a taxpayer-funded study set out to validate the ideology’s core premise, it backfired spectacularly — leaving the lead researcher desperate to bury the damning results. Wrong Hypothesis Enter Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy, one of the loudest proponents of so-called gender-affirming care. Olson-Kennedy herself spearheads the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at the Children’s H...

Stir yourself up!

Image
I feel like the apostle Peter at the end of his life, as he wrote his second letter. Twice, he told his readers why he was writing to them. In the first chapter, he said, “I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder” (2 Pet. 1:13). Then, in the last chapter, he repeated it: “I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder.” (2 Pet. 3:1) What Peter really means, and what I mean, by being “awakened” or “stirred up” is to feel some measure of the joy God intends for Christmas to bring. “Behold, I bring you good news of great joy” (Luke 2:10). Not small joy. Not modest joy. But “great joy.” If we don’t feel this when we ponder the incarnation of the Son of God, we need “awakening.” We need to be “stirred up.” I have called Christmas “the dawning of indestructible joy” because the joy Jesus brought into the world was like no other kind in history. Once we have it, it cannot be destroyed. Jesus said, “No one will take your joy from you” (John 16:22...

There’s an Advent Hippie on the Christmas Highway

Image
Christmas is just around the corner. I’m thinking of stuffed turkey, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes and Christmas pudding. Suddenly, without warning, I have a plateful of locusts and wild honey shoved under my nose. Christmas is just around the corner. Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? In the lane snow is glistening A beautiful sight, I’m happy tonight, I’m walking in a winter wonderland … … skating on an ice rink and taking my kids to see Santa with his bagful of goodies and a hearty “Ho, ho, ho.” Suddenly, without warning, the winter wonderland disappears and I hear a voice in a desert wasteland. It’s not Santa hollering, “Ho, ho, ho,” but John the Baptist shouting, “Woe, woe, woe!” Christmas is party time, but John the Baptist is the ultimate Advent party-pooper. Before he is through, our heads are pounding with images of vipers, wrath, axes, and unquenchable fire, when all we really wanted was a chance to get to the church carol service to sing, “Silent Night, Holy Night.” The...

Syrian Christians Face New Threat of Genocide from Muslim Jihadists

Image
One of the world’s oldest Christian communities is facing extermination from jihadists, as Islamic militants linked to Al-Qaeda have seized the Syrian city of Aleppo –home to an estimated 3.5 million people, including more than 50,000 Christians. While Aleppo has seen a mass exodus of some 200,000 Christians in the past 12 years, the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took control of large parts of the city on Sunday, prompting warnings from persecution watchers of a fresh “religious cleansing” of Christians. “It looks like we are now heading for another major crisis for Syrian Christians,”  Dr Martin Parsons , director of  The Lindisfarne Centre for the Study of Christian Persecution , told  The Stream . “Christian aid agencies need to prepare for a massive relief operation.” “Effective and Deadly” Muslim Militants Parsons explained that HTS is a direct affiliate of Al Qaeda set up under the name of the Jabhat al-Nusra Front in 2011 with the help of Abu Bakr al-Ba...

God's loves kids versus Trans activism

Image
Former Patient Sues Infamous Surgeon Noted for Pushing Sex Changes on Kids Transgender-rights activist Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy  has been sued  by a former patient who is now detransitioning. Clementine Breen, 20, claims in her lawsuit that Olson-Kennedy pushed her into transitioning at age 12 and lied about her being suicidal to pump her with testosterone. The doctor told Breen’s parents that “if they did not agree to cross-sex hormone therapy, Clementine would commit suicide,” even though the girl never had any suicidal thoughts. Breen was never evaluated by a psychologist before being pushed into the puberty blocker and hormone treatments, despite having faced mental health issues and suffering from sexual trauma as a child. When Breen was 14, Olson-Kennedy pushed a double mastectomy on the girl. She also lied in a letter to the surgeon who performed the mutilation, saying Breen had “endorsed a male gender identity since childhood.” The doctor's notes show Breen onl...

Reclaiming Christmas Hope

Image
The Christmas story clearly shows that the hope of the universe is a person. Hope was what the angels sang about. Hope lay in the manger. Hope caused Mary to wonder in her heart. It was hope the shepherds came to worship. Hope was presented with gifts from the Magi who had travelled so far. The Advent story is a hope story because it chronicles the coming to earth of the One who is hope, Jesus. For a people born in sin and for a world damaged by sin, there simply could not be any other source of hope. Good education would not solve the problem. The benevolent government had no power to solve the problem. More and better laws could not penetrate to the source of the problem. People couldn’t help one another and surely couldn’t help themselves. You see, the inescapable condition of sin infects every single human being and has scarred every aspect of the cosmos, which cried out for one thing and one thing alone: divine intervention. The only solution was a Savior, and the only suitable S...

Sin Unlamented

Image
A decline in the spiritual life lies in disregarding the Word of God and a lack of attention to prayer. Christians who allow sin to linger “unlamented” are in great spiritual danger. I encourage Christians to develop a habit of dealing with sin promptly, faithfully, and biblically. It is a timely word for our day as it was during his own. I considered how the duty of prayer is attended to as one considerable reason for spiritual declension. In this, I propose considering another cause contributing to the same end: sin lying on the conscience unlamented.[1] When the apostle Paul wrote his First Epistle to the church at Corinth, they were sunk in a wretched condition. With admirable faithfulness, wisdom, patience, and tenderness, he wrote that Epistle to reclaim them. Many of them were reclaimed, but some, it seems, continued insensible, which induced him, when he wrote his Second Epistle to that church, to express himself thus: “I fear lest when I come again, my God will humble me among...

Am I justified before God?

Image
Romans 5 Therefore, since faith has justified us, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him, we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance. Endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Rom. 5:1–5) What would you say if someone asked you to explain God’s justifying grace?  It is hard to comprehend the riches that are ours because of the justifying work of Jesus. Paul tells us in Romans 5 what we possess because of Christ’s perfectly righteous life, his anger-satisfying death, and his victorious resurrection: To be justified by faith means: 1. We have peace with God. May we never devalue these words? It is a miracle of grace that we who were bo...

We are better together

Image
Your academic life was all yours, from elementary to middle and high school to higher education. You read. You studied. You took quizzes, tests, and exams on your own. You did projects and wrote papers. You received your scores, marks, and grades. But occasionally, you were required to participate in a group project. Yes, you remember those. The group project is two or three or more of your classmates joining you to assemble a project for your teacher or professor.  Each member did a piece of the whole to submit it. You had to agree on everything from the topic to the content to how you would present it. And then, you all received the same letter grade, regardless of who did what or how much. Of all the things you were supposed to learn by doing the group project, you probably knew that you never wanted to do a group project again. They just rarely work well. Either you had to do most of the work yourself, or a “weak link” dragged down your grade. Who came up with this form of acad...

The Past, Present and Future Dangers of the Islamic Belief in the Mahdi

Image
Islam has been called a Christian heresy for centuries — first by the Church father  St. John of Damascus , an Arab Christian who lived during the Muslim conquests. Other notable Christian thinkers since —  Martin Luther ,  Hillaire Belloc , and  C.S. Lewis  among them —have agreed. Why? Because Islam’s founder, Muhammad, and the compilers of its holy book, the Quran, clearly cribbed from the Bible — both the  Old  and  New Testaments , as well as the  apocryphal “gospels ” that didn’t make the canonical cut.  In fact, a great  many biblical figures and events turn up in the Muslim holy book ,  as well as in  hadiths  — extra-Quranic sayings attributed to Muhammad. These figures include Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jonah, John the Baptist, Mary, and Jesus—but in the Quran, they’re all given a quite different spin.  Raymond Ibrahim deconstructed the Islamic Mary recently; a s for her Son, Muhammad’s  `Isa  litt...
