Father gave Jesus the Spirit without limit
For God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him (John 3:34).
You can have the Holy Spirit without measure. This is indeed a startling statement, but we are now living in the richest dispensation that man has ever lived in. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh (Acts 2:17). This is a pouring out time—not a sprinkle, but a downpour—and many people know it not.
Some People Profess But Do Not Possess This Experience
There are those who claim to have had the Holy Ghost baptism and yet they gossip, criticize the work of God and make light of God’s healing power; they could not possibly have the Spirit without measure. Note that I did not say they never have received this experience, but something has happened to them, and the Spirit WITHOUT MEASURE is not in their lives. When one receives the baptism of the Holy Ghost, he receives the Spirit without measure; but when he fails to believe God and trust in all of His Word, then he limits the Spirit in his life and measures the Spirit to himself.
Jesus Had the Spirit without Measure
Jesus came with great power. John said that the Spirit was given to Him without measure. It was wonderful indeed; He preached in a way no one had ever preached before, healing the sick, casting out devils, and doing many wonderful works among the people. The power that Jesus manifested when He was here on earth is for us today. When He ascended, He made it possible for us to ascend with Him, and to sit together with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). God does not measure the Spirit to you; but, as with Christ, He gives you the Spirit without measure. Through your disobedience, you measure it to yourself. Christ obeyed the Father in all things and did His will; when a person does this today, then the Spirit is given without measure.
The Disciples Received the Spirit without Measure
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12). Jesus told the disciples that not only would they do the works He was doing, but that they should do greater works. When will it be, Jesus? When they received the Holy Spirit without measure. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:49). After Christ ascended, the disciples went to Jerusalem and tarried until they were given the Spirit without measure. Then things really began to happen. What a sermon Simon preached when three thousand souls came into the Kingdom! What healing revivals broke out! The apostles spent their time in prayer and fasting and giving out the Word. The sick were healed by the numbers. We will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word (Acts 6:4). Jesus had told the disciples in Mark 9:29 about a particular type of unclean spirit, that this kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. Not until after they prayed, fasted and received the Holy Ghost baptism did they have the power to deliver people from that kind of spirit.
They Spoke with Tongues—You Will Too!
What an uproar it caused in Jerusalem when the Holy Spirit was poured out without measure! And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this (Acts 2:12)? Peter told them that it was the pouring out time of the Holy Spirit without measure. When the disciples received the Holy Spirit without measure, they spoke with tongues when He came in.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4). Why don’t some people receive the Spirit without measure today? Because they are not willing to receive Him the Bible way as on the day of Pentecost. You will never receive the Spirit without measure unless you have the physical, initial evidence, the speaking with another tongue. Will you ever speak with tongues? They spoke in tongues at Pentecost when they received the Spirit without measure, so why not you?
Fear keeps many people from receiving this power, and others listen to doubters who say that they can’t have the Pentecostal experience today, that speaking with tongues is not for us. Do you realize that millions have received this experience in our day?
The Holy Spirit Baptism, the Key to the Spirit without Measure
You may be saved and have the Spirit of the Lord in your life, but unless you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues, you do not have the Spirit without measure. When one is saved through faith in the blood of Jesus, he receives a measure of the Spirit of the Lord at that time, but it takes the Holy Ghost baptism for one to receive the Holy Spirit without measure. John the Baptist preached this truth in Matthew 3:11: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I…he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. John meant that the Lord at some future date would give His children an experience that was not then available. The Lord also told the disciples they would receive an experience later that they could not have at that time.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified) (John 7:37-39).
The disciples received power before Pentecost (Luke 9:1), but Jesus commanded them to tarry at Jerusalem until they received power different from what they already had: the power that comes with the Holy Ghost baptism.
Receive the Spirit without Measure
Let nothing stop you from receiving this power of the Holy Spirit which you need in your life. It is available to you now, today. Maybe you have prayed and asked God many times to give you more power; now you can have this power without measure. Here at Grace Cathedral, multitudes have received this glorious anointing of power from God through the laying on of hands, the same method that was used in the early churches. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost (Acts 8:17). Let nothing stop you. Let not the devil or man keep you from this great power. Receive the Holy Spirit without measure!
