Woke Bishop and Trump

As is tradition, the newly installed president and vice president attended a prayer service with their families at the National Cathedral on Tuesday morning. But for their trouble, they might as well have stayed home and watched MSNBC.

The progressive Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, who in 2020 openly called for Trump's defeat, chose to politicize the moment designed for national unity in a House of God by pleading with Trump to back away from deporting illegal immigrants. The expressions on the faces of Trump's family members speak volumes.

Budde also lectured the president about LGBTQ matters. She said,

Let me make one final plea, Mr. President. Millions have put their trust in you, and as you told the nation yesterday you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins was not impressed. “The cause of America’s decline was not what was sitting in the pew but what was standing behind the pulpit," he said. "What we heard today was not a prophetic voice from the church, but rather pathetic.”

Megyn Kelly was even less generous.

When asked his thoughts about the service, Trump replied, “Not too exciting, was it? I didn’t think it was a good service. They can do much better.”
